Book Review: The Fisher Queen's Dynasty by Kavita Kane

Review

I love reading Mythology among them Mahabharata is my favorite. It has everything that a great epic story should have. My mom used to tell me stories and also I used to watch Ramanand Sagar's Mahabharata. 

The story in this book is about Satyavati, the Queen Mother of Hastinapur. I have read her story but not in her perspective but in Bhishma's. When I was in school we had a chapter in Moral Science about the vow of Bhishma. From there I got to know the characters of Satyavati, Bhishma, and Shantanu. After that, I read Mahabharata and got to know more about Satyavati's story. She is a fisherwoman who became the Queen of Hastinapur. She was ambitious and ruthless. I read only stories but this book described her feelings.

This book was in Satyavati's perspective along with Bhishma. She was wronged since the birth and she had to accept everything since she was a woman. The book described Satyavati as ambitious and also wicked. She did everything so that she would never face poverty. She was hated by people and blamed for taking Bhishma's right to the throne. As the story proceeds Satyavati transformed from an innocent teenage girl to one of the powerful Queens. Even people around hated her still she achieved what she wanted the most. She was bound to the duty of a queen and she did everything to save the throne even if it meant using other people against their wishes. She was strong and also cold. But somewhere inside she was struck by guilt for deceiving Bhishma. This has been portrayed well in the book. I liked Satyavati's fearless personality and determination. Bhishma and Satyavati had a really good understanding and they ruled well together. Bhishma obeyed her and admired her even if she was wrong. It was like she was manipulating him to do her bidding. Bhishma is a wise man and no matter what he never broke his vow. Both are adamant about their decision and it led them to difficult consequences. I really liked this book and got to know more about how Satyavati feelings during those times.

The writing was good and easy to get to. This is my first book of Kavita Kane and I really enjoyed it. Keeping the actual story in mind she has written wonderfully. I am looking forward to reading more of her books.
