In the month of May, I purchased a lot of books. I was on a low budget but still managed to get more books. I went to BooksByWeight in Worli, Mumbai and some I got from Flipkart sale. Below is the list of books which I got from Flipkart sale:
1. Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
This book has won many awards and it has very good ratings. This is set up during the slavery period in America. This is a story about a slave girl named Cora and her journey towards freedom. Cora is a slave since her birth in one of the plantations in Georgia. She and her friend Caesar escapes from the plantation to reach Underground Railroad which will take them far from South. Cora faces a lot of hardships during the journey and also she is being hunted by slave catcher named Ridgeway. I already read this book and I enjoyed it. Please check my review at https://bookstechnologyandmore.blogspot.com/2018/05/book-review-underground-railroad.html
This is a parody of a famous book known as Half Girlfriend. Manav Jha a village boy meets Rhea who is city girl in Delhi. It is about his struggles to make Rhea his love forever. But Rhea is not in love with Manav and she tries to run away from him all the time. He always finds her. He never gives up and nor she. This is their story and along with many other cheesy characters. This book was ok and it was fun in some parts.
3. The Fisher Queen's Dynasty by Kavita Kane
This is the story about the Queen Mother Satyavati of Kuru Dynasty in Mahabharata. Satyavati who is also known as Matsyagandha is one of the strongest female characters in Mahabharata. She is known for her ambitions and hunger for power. This book tells the story of Satyavati from her perspective. This book is really good and I have a review for this at:
4. The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend

During the midnight of Eventide, she escapes her death with the help of Captain Jupiter North. He takes her to the city known as Nevermoor to be a part of Wundrous Society. To be part of this society Morrigan Crow must face four impossible trials and she is supposed to have a knack which she has not figured out yet. This is the first book in the Nevermoor series. I loved this book and the world is magical. I loved all the characters in the story. Check my full review at:
5. The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
This is a story set up in 18th Century Cairo. In this new world, people still believed in the old tales of djinn and spirits. This is the story of a girl named Nahari. She doesn't believe in magic and she wishes to leave Cairo. I never read a book about djinn and I am looking forward to reading this one. I have heard a lot of good things about this book. I guess this is adult fantasy. This is the first in Daevabad Trilogy. This is being blurbed by Sabaa Tahir who is the best selling author of An Ember in the Ashes. I am really excited to read this and hope to read this as early as possible.
6. A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
This is the second book in the An Ember in the Ashes Quartet. I own the first book and the third book will be releasing on June 12th' 2018. Before that, I want to finish both the books. Since this is the second book I cannot say much about it. Let me give you brief about the first book in the series. It is the story of Laia who is a slave and Elias who is a soldier. Laia's brother is arrested for treason and in order to protect him, she seeks help from rebels. The rebels ask her to spy on Martial Empire's greatest military academy school. She meets Elias there who don't like the ways of military and want to be free. This has a good review on Goodreads and also people at BookTube loves this book.
7. Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke
This is the third and the final book in the Inkworld series. I read the first book Inkheart and I loved it. I own the second book but I have not gone through it yet. This is a middle-grade novel and it follows twelve-year-old Meggie. Her father can bring book characters to life by reading it aloud. One of the characters abduct him and uses him for his own personal gain. Meggie sets out to rescue her father along with her aunt. The plot is amazing and the characters are lovable. I enjoyed the first book and I want to get into the second and third book to see what happens to Meggie and Mo after the incidents in the first book.
8. The Hundredth Queen by Emily R. King
This is the story of Kalinda who is 18 years old and she is an orphan ward of the Sisterhood. She is being taken by Rajah Tarek and ordered to fight for her place among his 99 wives and numerous courtesans. This is kind of tournament of death and she gets close to a guard named Captain Deven Naik. She hopes to escape from this hell. I have not heard much about this book and it has mixed reviews on Goodreads. I hope I will like it.
9. Say You're Sorry by Melinda Leigh
This is a murder mystery story set in Scarlet falls and it follows the main character Morgan Dane who is a prosecutor. A babysitter is killed and the neighbor's son is accused of the murder. Morgan Dane is asked to defend the accused. The community is enraged and she still believes that the accused guy is guilty. So she sets up an investigation along with her friend to find the real killer. This is the first book in Morgan Dane series and it has good reviews on Goodreads. I have never come across this book. It was cheap in Flipkart and premise was intriguing so I picked it up.
These are the 9 books I got from Flipkart. Below are the books which I got from BooksByWeight Worli, Mumbai
1. Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger
Audrey Niffenegger is the author of the famous book The Time Traveller's Wife. I have not read but I heard great things about this. Her Fearful Symmetry is the story of twins Julia and Valentina Poole who inherits a beautiful flat overlooking Highgate Cemetery from their dead aunt. The twins never heard about their aunt until her death and they move to the flat. They have no idea that they have been summoned by a mysterious person who is supposed to be their aunt's lover. He also works in the cemetery. The twins unravel the secrets of their aunt who is not ready to leave the flat even after her death. This a kind of mystery ghost story. Let me see how it will end.
2. All Dressed in White by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke
This is the third book in Under Suspicion series. This is a story of a disappearance of a bride on her bachelorette party. This happens five years ago and no one had a clue how and why she disappeared. In present-day New York city Laurie Moran thinks that this would be a perfect case for the Under Suspicion TV series and she recreates the night of the disappearance. By doing this Laurie along with the host Alex Buckley unravels a theory about the bride disappearing. There are many suspects involved and each one is dealt with. I have heard good reviews about the author Mary Higgins Clark. She is compared to Karin Slaughter who writes an awesome murder mystery. I have not heard much about the series but the plot looked promising. So I picked it up.
3. Dangerous Promises by Roberta Kray
This is also a murder mystery novel. I have not heard about this but it looked interesting. According to Goodreads, there are not many people who have read this book but whoever have read has given good ratings. This follows Sadie Wise who has an innocent conversation with a stranger in a train. She is trying to get a divorce from her husband Eddie. Then there is Mona who is Sadie's friend feels that Sadie is asking her to do something dangerous. That one encounter in train leads to murder, conflict, and deception. Nothing much is said in the back of the book. I guess I should read and find out what is happening.
4. Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick
Silence is the third book in the Hush Hush series. This is an Urban fantasy novel which follows the main character, Nora Grey. This story revolves around the angels. There are immortals and the fallen ones. Nora is caught up in the middle of the fight between the two. Nora has to choose one side and the wrong choice will cost her life. I have heard a lot of amazing reviews mainly from the BookTube community. People talk about this series a lot as their favorite. I own first and second book of this series. Once I get the final book I will binge read the series.
5. Winter in Madrid by C.J. Samson
C.J. Samson is the author of Mathew Shardlake series. I have read one of the books and really loved it. He writes historical fiction novels. Winter in Madrid is set up in 1940 after the Spanish Civil war. This is the story of Harry Brett, a traumatized Veteran of Dunkirk who is now an English spy. He is sent to gain the trust of his school friend who is now a businessman in Madrid. This also follows the story of Barbara Clare who is engaged in the mission of finding her former lover who vanished on a battlefield. It has been compared to books of Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I like to read historical fiction mainly after 1900's. The premise is good and I hope I will enjoy it.
6. Tom Clancy's Net Force: State of War by Steve Perry
This is the 7th book in the Tom Clancy's Net Force series. I always pick the middle books of Tom Clancy series. I need to read the first 6 books of the series before getting into it. This is kind of intelligence based novels. Totally there are 11 books in the series. Net Force is a computer security agency within the FBI to enforce web laws. The whole series revolves around this security agency and the threats it faces. I have heard a lot of good things about Tom Clancy books. I know the game Tom Clancy's Splintered Cell and it has good reviews. I also got to know about Jack Ryan series which is originally written by Tom Clancy. There are movies too. I am looking forward to reading Tom Clancy's book. I hope I can collect it all soon.
7. The Fourth Protocol by Frederick Forsyth
This is also an intelligence kind of novel. This follows John Preston who is an MI5 investigator. Nothing much is explained at the back but it is related to some ultra-secret Fourth Protocol which is a living nightmare. This involves Russia and I love espionage stories between different countries. Recently I watched Nikita on Amazon Prime and I got interested in this secret government organizations. So I am planning on reading this genre. This has 4-star ratings on Goodreads. I hope I will enjoy this.
8. The Fist of God by Frederick Forsyth
This is another of Frederick Forsyth's book. Actually, I got three of his books. They were together on the table and when I read the summary of all I got the CIA vibes. So I picked all the three books. this is the story set up during the Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait. It follows Major Mike who can pass as an Arab is sent to Kuwait to access Iraqi strength. From there a lot of things happens and he found out that there is a secret weapon. His mission is to destroy the secret weapon known as the Fist of God. It sounds interesting.
9. The Afghan by Frederick Forsyth
This about British and American Intelligence finding of the Al Queda operation. They are looking to plant someone but it is an impossible task. They plan to send an Afghan prisoner Izmat Khan who is the former senior commander of the Taliban. He is also a westerner who is born and raised in Iraq. His actual name is Colonel Mike Martin and he has served in the war zones around the world. The intelligence will pass off a Westerner as Arab among Arabs. This follows his story as a spy among the Taliban.
These are the books I accumulated in the month of May. There are total of 18 books and I hope I will get into these soon.
